Neurological Conditions We Treat

Neurological conditions can happen to anyone at any age. Your condition may be the result of abnormal development from birth (congenital), from aging or “wear and tear” (degenerative), from a traumatic injury, or from a tumor (neoplastic). It may also be infectious or related to other medical conditions or disease.

Our board-certified neurologists, neurosurgeons and specialized technicians are committed to patient-focused care and are proud to offer treatments for many neurological conditions, including:

  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Brain injuries and disorders
  • Dementia
  • Epilepsy
  • Extremity numbness
  • Facial pain conditions
  • Migraines
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Neurovascular disorders
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Peripheral nerve injuries
  • Spine disorders
  • Stroke
  • Traumatic injuries involving the brain, spinal cord, or skull
  • Tumors

Our expert staff provide both surgical and non-surgical options for relieving pain and treating all disease stages. Whether or not you require surgical care will be determined by your condition and overall health.

Our comprehensive neurosciences center treats conditions ranging from migraines to stroke to spinal injuries. Using leading-edge technology, our surgeons offer a wide range of tests and treatments, including:

  • Artificial cervical and lumbar disc replacement
  • Awake brain surgery
  • Brain endoscopy
  • Brain mapping
  • Electroencephalogram (EEG)
  • Electromyography (EMG)
  • Gamma Knife radiosurgery
  • Kyphoplasty
  • SmartSkans
  • Stereotactic neuronavigation
  • Vertebroplasty

If you or a loved one has had a stroke, our neurosurgery team will work closely with the inpatient stroke team to provide surgical care if necessary.

Neurologist vs. Neurosurgeon

Our neurology team specialize in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system. This includes any condition involving the brain, the spinal cord and nerves, the skull, the bones of the spine, spinal discs, as well as the blood vessels, ligaments and the protective coverings that offer support to the nervous tissues.

Neurosurgeons and neurologists share many of the same patients and often work together for the optimal care of the person. Many conditions are effectively treated by either specialist, with some conditions being best managed without surgery and others with operations. If medical intervention fails or is not acceptable, the neurologist may request the assistance of a neurosurgeon to evaluate the potential for a surgical treatment.

Many problems are structural in nature and may therefore respond best to neurosurgical intervention. It is much like the cardiologist who manages heart disease with medical intervention and the cardiac surgeon who offers surgery for those who have failed treatment with medications. Frequently, patients are sent to a neurologist by their primary care physician and, based upon the problem, referred to a neurosurgeon for their surgical expertise.
